Zip Lining in Boston

What a perfect way to end February vacation! With the beautiful weather that we had this past Saturday, we decided to go to Boston for a walk along the river. The first think that our kids noticed was the new play space at the Esplanade. Of course, we had to stop there. They had so much fun zip lining and climbing the spider web. We also had fun taking pictures of them. For this particular photo, a slow shutter speed was needed to show some action of our son riding the zip line.

Dreams

This is one of our favorites photos from a recent family photo sessions. I love how serene and beautiful Bella looks laying on the ground as if dreaming and enjoying the sun and the outdoors. She was great to work with. She was very sweet and had a very positive attitude towards the photo session.

Portrait at Sunset

We took this picture on our vacation in Maine a couple of weeks ago. The kids were ready for bed when we saw this amazing sunset. Very quickly we got our camera and flash and asked the kids to sit on the dock. Exposing for the sky was necessary to catch its vibrant colors but that meant that everything else was going to be underexposed. We didn't want to capture a silhouette. Therefore, using a flash was necessary to illuminate the kids. Flash was off the camera. We also feathered the light from the flash to avoid harsh lighting on their faces.  The end result is this beautiful picture of the kids enjoying nature and beautiful landscape with a gorgeous sunset.

Daily Picture - Baby by the Leaves

The other day at the park, my son and a couple of his friends started to play with the foliage after they finished playing soccer. I started taking pictures of them. This very cute and curious baby kept crawling to try to get close to the camera. I asked her and her mom if they wanted a picture. She sat down and stopped looking to touch the camera. I really think she was asking me to take some pictures of her too. Maybe she was thinking why are you only taking pictures of them and not me? by the way I’m cutter. I have to say she was a great model. She sat next to a tree, extended her arms and gave her mom a beautiful smile. The light from the sun illuminating the grass behind the tree was harsh and the background was going to be overexposed. So I position myself on an angle to only capture the baby and the tree behind her.

Daily Picture - Fall Rain

It's been a while since I wrote a post. I've have some photos from various photo sessions we've done lately that I'd like to share. I will do that starting tomorrow. Today, I want to share a photo that I took this morning from a walk in the rain with my son. Temperature was nice, so we decided to get the umbrellas and put on rain boots to go outside. Since he loves walking with his umbrella and jumping in puddles, he jumped off the couch and got himself ready to go.

To get this shot, I made sure that I had enough speed to freeze the action and get the splash in the shot. Because my son's umbrella is green, I asked him to pull the umbrella far from his face so we didn't get green reflection in his face and also to be able to get more light in his face.

Daily Picture - Jumping In The Lake

In the next couple of days, I will be posting some pictures that we took while on vacation in Maine. I love this one in particular. It's one of those memories we will never forget. The kids jumping from the doc all at the same time. You get the idea of how much fun all the kids had together... Priceless memories!

Daily Picture - By the Ocean

There is something about water that makes it very attractive, specially when we talk about the ocean. Its colors, the transparency that allows you to see what is in the bottom, the magic of the sound of the waves, etc. I could stay here writing about all these adjectives that come to my mind. And if you add children to to the recipe and take advantage of how much they enjoy playing in the water, you have the perfect combination for great photos.

Daily Picture - Jumping

No matter how many times you tell a kid that he should not jump, run, etc, some times they can't help themselves. They end at taking any opportunity that comes around to do it. Playing with the stomp rockets was one of those he couldn't pass.

He finally got a water proof cast today. Now he can run, jump and even jump in the water.

Daily Picture - My Cousin's Baby

Over the weekend we went to NY to meet my cousin's new baby and to attend to her Christening. We met her in the morning before the ceremony and we took some pictures of her. We fell in love with Sophia. She is not only beautiful and cute but she is also a very happy baby. She can't stop smiling.  We can't wait to see her again.

Daily Picture - Exploring The Forest

This morning I went for a walk with my son. Five minutes into our walk through the forest he said " just trees and trees and trees... Boooriiing" So I told him that if we paid attention to the surrounding he'd discover it was not going to be boring at all. Well, I have to say that we had a great morning. We found so many interesting things, hollow trees, birds, colorful mushrooms, cool spider webs, etc. At the end, he didn't want to go home at all. This is one of the pictures that I took.

Daily Picture - Valentine's Day Pictures

This picture was taken at the Valentine's Day event we had with ColoresKids . Kids had a great time doing crafts and getting their pictures taken. We set up our portable studio with a white background and different props to choose from for boys and girls.

Daily Picture - Snow Days

This winter has been particularly cold. Yesterday morning when we learned that schools where closed due to the snow, we though we were going to spend a lot of time playing  outside. I kept checking the temperature all morning long. Later in the afternoon we bundled up, took the sled and went out. I don't thing we were out for more than 15 minutes. It was so cold that when I suggested to go back inside, the kids didn't complain. They were done playing in the snow, which is rare. But is understandable with temperatures in the single digits. I wished it hadn't been that cold. We really enjoy the snow.

Daily Picture - Pictures at Colores Kids

Claudia Peralta Shepherd from ColoresKids invited us to participate in her studio's holiday event. We set up a studio where we took pictures to some of the families that attended the event.  Kids had a great time doing crafts and posing for the pictures. What a great place for kids to do arts and crafts! We were really impressed with the feel of this place, Claudia and the stuff were very welcoming and creative. This a very nice place for kids to explore art and have some fun. The studio offers after school activities, movie night for the kids, birthday parties etc.

Daily Picture - Playing in the Snow

One of our favorite activities after a snow storm is to play on top of the snow banks. Luis usually smoothes the bank down to make a slide. Then the kids have hours of play.

One tip for taking pictures in the snow is to compensate the exposure around one stop over so your subject is properly exposed.

Daily Picture - Photographing Twins

We just had one more oportunity to take pictures of these lovely twins. They always make us smile, they are fun. They are both very cute and yet, so different. One is blond, the other one is brunette. One is outgoing and the other one more introvered. They are smart and they always are taking care of each other. And they are really fun to photograph. Some times they are camera shy and some times they are not.

Daily Picture - Face Painting

Last Saturday we went to Spooktacular in Natick. We enjoyed all the family events. It was specially nice to see how happy kids get when they get their face painted. This one in particular was done by Claudia from Colores Kids. You can see the expression of happiness in Justin when he saw the result. By exposing to the mirror instead of him, we achieved capturing his expression and the detail of the face painting both at the same time.

Daily Picture - Side walk

An empty side walk covered by trees with beautiful yellow leaves is an inspiration for pictures. In this photo you'll find lots of composition elements: leading lines, patterns, colors and triangles. This is one that I will definitely have printed and hanged on my wall

Every were you walked was packed with people from all over the word. You may be able to appreciate in the picture the amount of people watching it from the bridge. It really was a great family experience.
